Crinella Vineyard is ideally situated on a gentle slope in Green Valley, a highly sought after section of the Russian River Valley renowned for producing exceptional cool climate wines. Green Valley is defined by cool temperature and fog, allowing long even flavor development for Pinot Noir, a grape that is quite temperamental to site. The "Goldridge" soil of Crinella Vineyard is a golden yellow sandy loam and fractured sandstone which is particularly valuable for high quality grape growing due to excellent drainage and low vigor.
Fruit was harvested early in the morning, then destemmed but not crushed. Whole berries were poured over the top into open-topped stainless steel fermenters, then cold soaked for 6 days before fermentation started. Throughout fermentation cap was managed with a combination of both punchdowns and pumpovers. Aged 18 months in Francois Freres and Ermitage French oak barrels.
The wine shows wonderful intensity, depth, focus and purity of Pinot Noir flavor. A rich vibrant core of juicy black cherry and wild berry with delicious aromas of cinnamon, rose petal and raspberry. Impeccably balanced, graceful and supple, finishes with a hint of toasty oak and ripe, fine-grained tannins. Continues to gain depth and richness on the finish, where the flavors linger.
